How Berklee documents work

Berklee takes apostille requests through an online Apostille Request Form. You upload the documents you need apostilled, such as a transcript, enrollment verification or diploma, and if you need a new transcript, verification or replacement diploma, Berklee asks you to order it first. Graduate students have their own request page, and Berklee Online students are directed to contact the online registrar instead of using the form.

It's a clear process, but it isn't instant, and it doesn't cover translation or embassy legalization. When your deadline is close, or your destination needs more than an apostille, we can help. Some institutions will accept a certified copy of your academic record. In those cases, we can come to you, notarize the document and provide an expedited apostille. Please confirm this option is acceptable with the recipient first. Otherwise, we partner with the school to ensure international acceptance.

How your Berklee and Boston Conservatory record gets notarized

Massachusetts will apostille an academic record notarized with any of its four notarial acts: acknowledgment, jurat (affidavit), signature witnessing or copy certification. Which one you need is usually set by whoever receives your documents, so we confirm their requirements before we start.

School official acknowledgment

A Berklee and Boston Conservatory official signs your diploma, transcript or verification letter before the notary, and the notarial certificate names the official, their title and the school. Ministries of education and universities abroad often require this.

School official affidavit

The Berklee and Boston Conservatory Registrar signs a separate sworn statement confirming your graduation and that the attached records match the school's files, and the notary notarizes it. Spain's Ministry of Education, for example, accepts only this or an acknowledgment. See our Spain guide.

Certified copy, only if your recipient accepts it

As the owner of your diploma, you present the original and we notarize a certified copy, then get the apostille in 1–2 business days. Many recipients won't accept a copy certification, so please confirm with yours first.

Prepared right the first time

We coordinate with the Berklee and Boston Conservatory Registrar, prepare the notarial certificate with the details your recipient requires, and file with the Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth. For the school-certified routes, you don't need to come to Boston.

What to have ready

  • Your degree, graduation year and the name on your record
  • Which documents you need: diploma, transcript, verification letter or all three
  • The destination country and who will receive the documents
  • Their written instructions, if you have them
  • Whether you need a certified translation
  • Your deadline

Send what you have. We'll fill in the gaps with you.

How we handle it

  1. 1

Tell us your program and destination

Berklee, Boston Conservatory, Berklee Online and the graduate programs don't all use the same route.

  2. 2

    We confirm the right document

Diploma, transcript or enrollment verification, depending on what your recipient wants.

  3. 3

    Notarized record, then the apostille

Once we have a properly notarized record, we file with the Secretary of the Commonwealth in person, typically in 1–2 business days.

  4. 4

    Translation or legalization

Added in the same order when your destination needs it.

  5. 5

    Delivered worldwide

Tracked shipping to you, a school, an employer or a visa agent.

Who we help

Performers on artist visas

Many countries ask for proof of training with a work or artist visa application.

Music teachers abroad

International schools and conservatories often want apostilled degrees and an FBI check. See Teach Abroad Packets.

Graduate and conservatory applicants

Transcripts and diplomas for master's and doctoral study overseas.

International graduates

Berklee has a large international community, and many graduates need their degree recognized at home.

Mistakes Berklee graduates avoid

  • Sending an electronic transcript. A PDF can't carry a Massachusetts apostille. It needs to be a notarized paper record.
  • Using a bank notary. A notary can't confirm that a university record is genuine on their own. The notarization needs to involve your registrar.
  • Getting an apostille for a non-Hague country. The UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and others need embassy legalization instead.
  • Forgetting the translation. Many countries won't accept English-only records. We add certified translation to the same order.
  • A name that doesn't match your passport. If your name has changed since graduation, tell us early.
  • Submitting more than one request form. Berklee asks graduates not to submit multiple forms. Plan your full document list first.

Why Berklee graduates come to us

Speed

When an audition, contract or visa appointment is coming up, we'll tell you honestly what's possible and plan backward from your date.

One order

Apostille, translation and embassy legalization handled together, rather than separately.

Worldwide delivery

We ship to you or directly to the school, employer or agent that needs the documents.

Planning your timeline

If Berklee is issuing a new transcript or replacement diploma, allow time for that first. Once a properly notarized record reaches us, the Massachusetts apostille is typically ready in 1–2 business days, plus shipping. If you also need a translation or legalization, we plan those steps alongside so the full set is ready together.

Official sources

Each registrar sets its own forms, timelines and fees, and can change them at any time. We link to official pages so you can check the current process yourself.

Where we meet you

Berklee's campus is in the Fenway and Back Bay, around Massachusetts Avenue and Boylston Street, and Boston Conservatory is on The Fenway. We come to you anywhere in Greater Boston, or you can mail us your documents from anywhere in the world.

Frequently asked questions

Do you handle Boston Conservatory at Berklee degrees?

Yes. Tell us your program and graduation year, and we'll confirm the current route for your records.

I studied through Berklee Online. Is it different?

Yes. Berklee directs Online students to the online registrar rather than the main apostille form. We'll help you sort out the right path.

Can you send my apostilled diploma straight to a conservatory abroad?

Yes, with tracking.

Is an apostille the same as a translation?

No. An apostille authenticates the document; a translation makes it readable. Some countries need both, and we provide both.

Can my digital or electronic diploma be apostilled?

Usually not as it is. A certified electronic diploma is a secure file that the recipient verifies online, and some recipients accept it directly, so ask them first. For an apostille, Massachusetts needs a notarized paper document: usually a notarized copy of your diploma, a notarized transcript or a notarized degree verification letter. Tell us what your recipient asked for and we’ll confirm the right route.
