Documents for the Portugal Golden Visa

The Golden Visa (residence permit for investment) is still available, though the program has changed in recent years, including the end of the real estate route. Whatever investment route you take, your lawyer in Portugal will usually ask for an FBI background check with a federal apostille from the U.S. Department of State, translated into Portuguese. Family members on the application typically need apostilled birth and marriage certificates. Many investors also sign a power of attorney so their lawyer can get a NIF (tax number), open a bank account and file for them. Timing is the tricky part: FBI checks are often only accepted for about 90 days, so we plan the apostille and translation around your filing date. Your lawyer decides which documents you need; we prepare them correctly and on time.

Requirements change and can differ by consulate, city and purpose. Always confirm the exact requirements with the office receiving your documents. We're happy to review what they sent you.

How we handle it

  1. 1

Tell us what the recipient asked for

Send us the list or the email from the consulate, school, employer or attorney. We review it and confirm exactly what each document needs.

  2. 2

    We prepare each document

Certified copies, notarization by appointment, or retrieval of records you don't have yet.

  3. 3

    Apostilles from the right offices

Massachusetts documents go to the Secretary of the Commonwealth, other states' documents to that state, and federal documents, like FBI checks, to the U.S. Department of State.

  4. 4

    Portuguese translation and shipping

We arrange certified translation when it's needed, then ship everything back with tracking, to you or directly abroad.
