How Simmons documents work
Simmons has an apostille process for diplomas. You indicate in writing that you need your diploma notarized and apostilled, and Simmons notarizes it and sends the notarized diploma to the street address you give. If you'd like Simmons to send it straight to the Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth, you include a prepaid shipping label. Simmons transcripts are issued electronically through Parchment, and diplomas produced after September 2018 say Simmons University, whenever you attended.
The fastest path is often to have Simmons send the notarized diploma to us. We file it in person with the Secretary of the Commonwealth, add translation or legalization if needed, and ship it to you. Some institutions will accept a certified copy of your academic record. In those cases, we can come to you, notarize the document and provide an expedited apostille. Please confirm this option is acceptable with the recipient first. Otherwise, we partner with the school to ensure international acceptance.
How your Simmons University record gets notarized
Massachusetts will apostille an academic record notarized with any of its four notarial acts: acknowledgment, jurat (affidavit), signature witnessing or copy certification. Which one you need is usually set by whoever receives your documents, so we confirm their requirements before we start.
School official acknowledgment
A Simmons University official signs your diploma, transcript or verification letter before the notary, and the notarial certificate names the official, their title and the school. Ministries of education and universities abroad often require this.
School official affidavit
The Simmons University Registrar signs a separate sworn statement confirming your graduation and that the attached records match the school's files, and the notary notarizes it. Spain's Ministry of Education, for example, accepts only this or an acknowledgment. See our Spain guide.
Certified copy, only if your recipient accepts it
As the owner of your diploma, you present the original and we notarize a certified copy, then get the apostille in 1–2 business days. Many recipients won't accept a copy certification, so please confirm with yours first.
Prepared right the first time
We coordinate with the Simmons University Registrar, prepare the notarial certificate with the details your recipient requires, and file with the Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth. For the school-certified routes, you don't need to come to Boston.

Mistakes Simmons graduates avoid
- Sending an electronic transcript. A PDF can't carry a Massachusetts apostille. It needs to be a notarized paper record.
- Using a bank notary. A notary can't confirm that a university record is genuine on their own. The notarization needs to involve your registrar.
- Getting an apostille for a non-Hague country. The UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and others need embassy legalization instead.
- Forgetting the translation. Many countries won't accept English-only records. We add certified translation to the same order.
- A name that doesn't match your passport. If your name has changed since graduation, tell us early.
- Forgetting to put the request in writing. Simmons asks for a written request for notarization and apostille.

Frequently asked questions
My diploma says Simmons College. Is that a problem?
No. Older diplomas carry the college name. A replacement issued now will say Simmons University.
Can Simmons send my notarized diploma to you?
Yes. Simmons sends it to the street address you specify.
Can my digital or electronic diploma be apostilled?
Usually not as it is. A certified electronic diploma is a secure file that the recipient verifies online, and some recipients accept it directly, so ask them first. For an apostille, Massachusetts needs a notarized paper document: usually a notarized copy of your diploma, a notarized transcript or a notarized degree verification letter. Tell us what your recipient asked for and we’ll confirm the right route.
