French documents from around the world

French is an official language on civil records from Europe, North America, the Caribbean and much of Africa, and each country formats its records differently. We translate full birth certificates (actes de naissance) and extracts, marriage and divorce records, school records with grading notes, and court judgments, including every stamp and margin note. Many Haitian records are issued in French, and we translate them with the same care. See Haitian Creole translation.

Full copies, extracts and margin notes

Many French-speaking countries issue both a full copy of a civil record and a shorter extract, and offices often specify which one they need. Full copies include marginal notes recording later marriages, divorces or name changes, and those notes must be translated too. Before you order a new record, check which version your recipient wants. We translate exactly what you send, including every annotation, and keep names consistent with your passport.

How to order a French translation

  • Send clear scans or photos of every page, front and back
  • Tell us who will receive the translation: USCIS, a court, a school or a foreign office
  • Tell us the spelling of names you use on your passport
  • Tell us your deadline
  • We translate the full document and attach a signed certification

Need an apostille or notarization too? We add it to the same order.
