MOBILE NOTARY · COST GUIDE

What Affects the Cost of a Mobile Notary in Massachusetts?

Mobile notary pricing is not one-size-fits-all. A single signature at your kitchen table and an overnight hospital visit with witnesses are very different requests. Here is what shapes a quote, so you know what to expect and how to plan.

Why mobile notary quotes vary

A notary at a bank or shipping store performs the notarial act and nothing more. A mobile notary also brings the service to you: travel time, scheduling around your availability, and the flexibility to meet at a home, office, hospital or hotel. Some requests involve one signer and one document; others involve several family members, witnesses, a long estate plan or a loan package of more than one hundred pages.

Because no two appointments are quite alike, we quote each request individually rather than publishing a single price that would fit almost no one. The factors below explain what goes into that quote.

The factors that shape your quote

1. Number of notarizations

Each signer's signature on each notarized document is a separate notarial act. Two people signing three notarized documents is six notarizations. This is usually the single largest factor, and it is why we ask how many signers and documents you have.

2. Location and travel

Travel within 10 miles of Back Bay is included in your quote. Visits farther out, or locations with difficult parking or building access, are quoted based on distance and time.

3. Timing

Weekday appointments booked in advance are the simplest to schedule. Same-day, evening, weekend, holiday and overnight requests are quoted for that specific time.

4. The setting

Hospital, rehabilitation and nursing facility visits often involve waiting for the signer to be available, coordinating with staff and confirming the signer's alertness. We plan for that time. See our hospital notary guide.

5. Witnesses

Wills, some estate documents and certain out-of-state documents require one or two witnesses in addition to the notary. If you need us to arrange witnesses, that is included in your quote.

6. Printing, scanning and shipping

Loan packages and emailed documents may need to be printed, scanned back or shipped by FedEx or UPS. These steps are quoted when they apply. See loan signings.

7. Length and complexity

A full estate plan signing ceremony or a corporate signing with several officers takes longer than a single affidavit. We schedule enough time so nothing is rushed.

8. Documents going abroad

If your document needs an apostille, authentication, embassy legalization or certified translation after notarization, those services are quoted together with the notarization so you have one clear total.

Ways to keep your cost down

  • Gather everyone at once. One visit for the whole family or team costs less than several separate appointments.
  • Book ahead when you can. Weekday appointments scheduled in advance avoid after-hours timing.
  • Have documents final and printed. Unfinished documents can mean a second visit.
  • Know your count. Telling us the number of signers and notarized documents up front lets us quote accurately the first time.
  • Ask about bulk rates. Discounted rates are available for more than 10 notarizations.
  • Bundle international steps. If your document is going abroad, having us handle the notarization and the apostille together saves a separate trip and shipping.

What Massachusetts law says about notary fees

Massachusetts law sets out notary fees in chapter 262, section 41, and it specifically prohibits notaries from charging any fee to notarize signatures on absentee ballot envelopes and other voting materials, or on applications and claims by United States military veterans for veterans' benefits (chapter 222, section 23). A notary also may not refuse to notarize because a person is not an existing client or customer.

Every quote we provide separates the notarization from travel and any additional services you request, such as witnesses, printing, shipping, apostilles or translation, so you can see exactly what you are paying for.

What to include in your quote request

  • The type of document, such as a power of attorney, affidavit, deed or estate plan.
  • How many people will sign, and how many documents need notarization.
  • The address, including whether it is a home, office, hospital or facility.
  • Your preferred date and time, and how flexible you are.
  • Whether witnesses are needed, if you know.
  • Where the document is going, especially if it will be used outside the United States.

Frequently asked questions

Why don't you publish a price list?

Because requests differ so much in signers, documents, location and timing, a single published price would be accurate for very few people. A personalized quote gives you the real number for your situation.

Is travel included?

Travel within 10 miles of Back Bay is included in your quote. Farther locations are quoted based on distance and time.

Do you charge per signature or per visit?

Quotes reflect both: the number of notarizations and the visit itself, including travel and timing.

Do evening and weekend appointments cost more?

After-hours, weekend, holiday and overnight requests are quoted individually for the time requested.

Do you offer discounts for large signings?

Yes. Discounted rates are available for more than 10 notarizations.

Is there a charge if I cancel?

Please see our cancellation policy for details on rescheduling and cancellations.

Do you notarize veterans' benefit documents for free?

Massachusetts law prohibits notaries from charging a fee to notarize signatures on applications or claims by United States military veterans for veterans' benefits, and on absentee ballot envelopes and voting materials.
